Ninja Volleyball

A 2 vs 2 volleyball game in development for PC and Nintendo Switch.
Introduction
Ninja Volleyball is a fast-paced, multiplayer volleyball experience where players battle it out 2 vs 2 to see who’s the best team on the court. The game follows a traditional set of volleyball rules, but with a twist. Players can jump over the net to guard the ball on the opponent’s side, using their ninja skills to block the ball and set up spikes before their opponents are able to return it.
Gameplay ~ Serving
Like in volleyball, every point in Ninja Volleyball begins with a serve.
Advanced Strategy
Serves in Ninja Volleyball work a little different than traditional volleyball rules in that both members of the serving team are allowed to touch the ball and have 3 touches on their side. This allows players to get creative by changing up who hits the ball at different parts of the serve.
Gameplay - Spiking
Spikes can be performed if a player presses down when above the ball. Spikes hit harder than regular hits and can be used to apply pressure to the opposing team to put them on the defensive.
Dash Spiking
A Dash Spike is similar to a regular spike, but is performed by using a dash charge. Dash Spikes are a little less powerful than a full strength spike, but allow for more precision through the momentum gained during the dash. Dash Spikes can also be done in any dash-able direction, allowing for upward spikes that use the ceiling.
Gameplay - Guarding
A unique part of Ninja Volleyball is the ability to jump off the net and use your jumps and dashes to guard the ball on the opposite side of the court. This has a risk / reward factor to it, putting more pressure on the opponent, but leaving your own side vulnerable if the opponent is able to return it.
In this example above, the green player on top the net is guarding the ball on the red side of the court.
Eventually, their pressure on the red team opens up an opportunity for a spike, which finishes off the point.
Serve Guarding
Another opportunity to guard the ball is during a serve. A player from the opposing team of the server may attempt to hit the ball back for a quick attack off the serve, but must do so behind the service line ( the dotted line at mid court ). If done successfully, the quick momentum shift can be enough to put the serving team on the defensive, if not win the point out right.

Above, the yellow player sets up their position on the net, then times their serve guard perfectly to catch the serving team off guard, winning the point.
Gameplay - Dashing
Introduction
In Ninja Volleyball each player starts with 3 dashes, which can be used to gain additional movement around the court and hit the ball in different directions.
Recharging Dashes
To restore dashes after using them, a player simply has to stand on the ground on their side of the court for a few seconds to regenerate them.
Defensive Dashing
When dashing on the ground, the ball also pops up when hit instead of moving in the direction of the dash, helping players have an extra defensive option to reach the ball more quickly.
